PLU STUDENT UNION ELECTIONS CAMPAIGN KICKS OFF , WITH ASPIRANTS PROMISING TO DELIVER .

  The Pentecostal Life University Elections campaign kicked off in style today at the Institution's Campus where aspirants promised to deliver once ushered into Office during a series of campaign activities that were staged today .   The upcoming Pentecostal Life University Student Union Elections is facing lack of contesting aspirants to per take in the Elections, a development which turns out to be very risky to the Democratic nature of an Institution but also leads to the  ushering of  incompetent leaders in Office . A recent research by the Sight Media Group at the Institution shows that each and every position in the upcoming Student Union elections has only one Aspiring Candidate without Competitors meaning to say that  If the Elections are to take place, these candidates will win the elections by default without any Competition something which is not healthy to a Political and Democratic surrounding and  a series of engagements with Students at the Institution has Indicated that Many Students don't want to Contest in various positions in the Elections because thay are afraid of loosing the Elections due to the strength of these other Aspirants . PLU STUDENT UNION ELECTIONS CAMPAIGN DATES CONFIRMED

  Campaign dates for the upcoming Pentecostal Life University (PLU) Student Union elections have been set for the 29th of November 2023 according to the Elections Committee Treasurer . In an interview with the Incumbent Student Union Treasurer who is also treasurer to the Elections Committee Jedidiah Kalilango, aspiring candidates in the upcoming elections are to start campaigning on the 29th of November 2023 and will end a day before voting while the actual day for the elections will be communicated to the Students later "Campaigning will start on Wednesday this week and about the election day, I will confirm" said Kalilango. He further added that registration for those aspiring to contest in the Elections is currently open and will close on Tuesday the 28th of November 2023 at  11:59am. COUNTRY TO EXPERIENCE HEAVY RAINS

     The County is expected to experience heavy rains from Wednesday the 29th of November 2023 according to a report from the Department of Climate Change and Meteorogical Services . Through a report on this week's weather, the department has stated that some areas in the country are set to experience a clowdy and windy weather while some areas are to experience heavy rains. Despite the trend, the department also said that the current hot weather being experienced in many areas will continue to be experienced in southern region areas .  Meanwhile strong Meera winds are expected to blow over Lake Malawi from Wednesday evening this week .   Malawi's Grievin Stanford yesterday defeated Opponents from different African Countries to become winner of the Pool Championship  in a pool tournament which was staged in Zambia . Stanford managed to beat a Zimbabwean opponent 9-4 in the Semifinals to book his spot in the finals and went on to defeat his other opponent in the Finals to clinch the prestigious pool accolade. RBM REBUFFS K10,000 NOTE INTRODUCTION

  The Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) has rebuffed reports circulating on Social Media platforms and around the country regarding possible plans of introducing a K10,000 note . Governor of RBM Dr Wilson Banda, made these remarks during a press briefing the Country's Central Bank made this Afternoon. Banda further stated that RBM has no plans to Introduce a K10,000 note because they are  currently working on  appreciating  the country's Currency following it's devaluation and  that the Bank's effort is being directed towards that course .   Pentecostal Life University Football team(The Archers) is this afternoon set to play against Daeyang University in a mouth watering Clash scheduled to take place  at Lilongwe Teachers Training College ground in Lilongwe. The Archers who are unbeaten in 3 Consecutive games, will be looking to maintain their 100% record this Semester and will be looking to cause another  blow to a fellow Lilongwe based tertiary Institution  having also defeated LUANAR FC at their own backyard last Month. The game is expected to be a very balanced and tough encounter between the two sides who met last Semester and Daeyang managed to defeat Archers by a narrow Margin. THE WORLD COMMEMORATES WORLD CHILDRENS DAY

  Different countries across the World are today celebrating World Childrens day to celebrate the life and existence of every Child on the planet . World Children’s Day was first established in 1954 as Universal Children's Day and is celebrated on 20 November each year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children's welfare. November 20th is an important date as it is the date in 1959 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. It is also the date in 1989 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child This year's theme is, 'For every child, every right. ' One of the rights in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is that everyone should know about children's human rights (article 42). MSONDA RECEIVING DEATH THREATS

  Democratic Progressive Party(DPP) National Governing Committee(NGC) member Ken Msonda has today revealed that he and his Collegues are receiving death threats from other Senior DPP members. Msonda made these remarks during a press briefing he and other DPP members organized in Lilongwe to address the current Challenges and hostilities facing the party . FLAMES STUN LONE STARS

The Malawi Football National team on Friday the 17th November 2023  evening stunned Liberia by a goal to nil to begin their World Cup qualifying campaign in  fine style . The first half of the match ended in a stalemate after both sides failed to capitalize on the chances they created . In the 78th minute of the second half substitute Chifundo Mphasi struck barely minutes after his introduction. The 19 year old attacker who is currently playing for Kabwe Warriors in the Zambian top tier received a nice lobed pass from Tatenda M'balaka then pounced on it to give the Flames valuable 3 away points. FARMERS MAJOR FOREX EARNERS

  Former Reserve Bank of Malawi Governor Dalitso Kabambe has disclosed that despite Farmers being major forex in the country, most of the  farmers  are struggling due to lack of government commitment to support them. Kabambe was speaking this during a press conference organized by the Democratic Progressive Party(DPP) at Page House in Mangochi where DPP President Peter Mutharika was addressing the nation on various issues affecting the country. In his statement Kabambe stated that farmers in the country are the major forex earners given the fact that the country's economy heavily depends on Agricultre, but despite the trend, Kabambe said that Government is continuing infringing these farmers citing the current raise of fertilizer price from K17,000 during DPP reign to K110,000 in this current administration as one of the things infringing farmers. MERA HIKES GAS PRICE

The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has announced a raise in   gas price from  K2,450 to K3,245 per Kilogram effective from 17th November 2023. In a letter released by MERA Board Chair Reckford Kampanje, the price hike is as a result of the Kwacha devaluation. UNOFFICIAL RESULTS IN : GWENGWE TRIUMPHS

  Unofficial results from Mthandiza TDC have indicated that Willard Gwengwe representing the Malawi Congress Party(MCP) has won the parliamentary  elections for Dedza Central Constituency. Gwengwe who managed to get 7913 votes was battling it out with Jacob Kaumphawi an Independent Candidate who has emerged as a runner-up getting 7361 votes and Andrew Koweza representing the Democratic Progressive Party  who got 403 votes . Official results will be released today Friday the 17th of November 2023 at the Agricultural  Residential Training Center in the District around 2pm by the Malawi Electoral Commission . PARLIAMENT DENIES NANKHUMWA'S REQUEST

  The Parliament House has today denied a request made by leader of opposition in the house Kondwani Nankhumwa to summon President Chakwera before the house to answer some questions from Members of Parliament. The resolution to deny the request was made through a vote in the house, where 63 Members of Parliament voted against the request while 50 Members of Parliament voted in support of the request. The request by Nankhumwa was aimed at demanding answers from the State President on the Kwacha devaluation, hunger issues in the country, Affordable Input Programme and fall in the country's security levels . BANKERS PURCHASE A 60 SEATER BUS

    TNM Super league giants Silver strikers have bought a 60 seater bus which is expected to arrive in the country next year . Confirming this development to the press, General Secretary for the team Peter Masiye stated that the bus has been purchased to ease transportation issues facing the club with the introduction of Women and Youth teams at the club . He further stated that the bus is currently is South Africa and will arrive in the country next year . MALAWI COMMEMORATES REMEMBERANCE DAY

  Maltitudes today joined the State Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima and other Senior Government Officials in commemorating Remembrance Day (Poppy Day) in various Cities across the Country. In the Old capital City Zomba, the Vice President led hundreds of Malawians in observing this year's Poppy Day. Chilima laid a wreath at Zomba memorial tower, followed by Malawi Defence Force(MDF) Commander General Paul Valentino Phiri, Inspector General of Malawi Police Merlyn Yolamu, Speaker of the National Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara, Chief Justice Rezine Mzikamanda and leader of opposition in Parliament Kondwani Nankhumwa who also laid wreaths as part of Poppy Day Commemorations . RED LIONS RELEGATED : JOINS EXTREME FC IN THE CHOP

  Zomba based TNM Super League outfit Red Lions FC has become the second team  to be  relegated from the Country's top flight League joining Extreme FC who were relegated a while ago . This comes as a result of a one all draw between Chitipa United and MAFCO FC today . The result has left the Zomba based Soldiers with 29 points from 29 games played confirming their relegation since all  their  relegation rivals Including Moyale Barracks FC, Ekwendeni Hammers and MAFCO FC both have a better points tally which can not be surpassed by the Soldiers regarding that they have one game left to play . The Lions who just got promoted this season , have failed to maintain their top flight status . They now join  Extreme FC and wait for another team to join them to the lower divisions. ILLOVO RAISES SUGAR PRICES

  One of the Country's major Sugar producers ILLOVO Malawi has raised it's Sugar prices with effect from 10 November 2023 . In a Public Notice released by the company , the decision to raise the prices is due to the recent 44% devaluation of Kwacha which has highly impacted their operations by raising their  Costs when it comes to the production of Sugar . With the new prices , a one Kilogram packet of Sugar will be sold for K2,000 from K1500 . This move by ILLOVO Malawi  follows a series of price  hiking moves made by a number of Companies to their products in response to the recent 44% devaluation of Kwacha with Castel Malawi but also Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) also raising prices of beverage and Petroleum products respectively . ERASTUS SHINES IN PLU CHESS TOURNAMENT

  Erastus Chinunga a first year Student at Pentecostal Life University has emerged victorious in the inaugural PLU chess tournament which took place today at the Institution's Campus in Lilongwe. The tournament which was sponsored by Mwale Chess Academy founded by the current National Chess Champion Joseph Mwale brought together 12 participants pursuing different programmes at the tertiary Institution. Erastus Chinunga who defeated Collins Changaphanga in the Finals of the tournament said that he was very happy to have won the prestigious tournament citing his win to good preparation and hard work as key players in his win and further encouraged his fellow Students to venture into the sport of Chess to gain much needed exposure and knowledge. PLU CHESS TOURNAMENT UNDERWAY

  The first ever Chess tournament to be staged at Pentecostal Life University is currently underway at the Institution's campus in Lilongwe , Writes Benjamin GK Nyirenda. The tournament is being sponsored by Mwale Chess Academy a Chess Academy foundation established by the current Chess National Champion Joseph Mwale . Presiding over the tournament is Francis Kankhwala who is the Publicity Secretary for the Central Region Chess League but also a representative of Joseph Mwale who is currently out of the country for other engagements. The Winner of the tournament is to walk away with a prize money of K15,000 while the runner up is expected to pocket K5,000. FUEL PRICES HIKED

  Fuel  prices in the country have been adjusted upwards effective 10th November 2023 . Confirming about the development through a letter , Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has confirmed about the issue stating that the price adjustments where made having considered recent trends in the World Petroleum products prices as well as exchange rate movements and their Impact on the energy prices . With the new set up , Petrol is now being sold at K2,520.00 per litre from a possible K1,746.00 representing a 44.90% change , Diesel is now at K2734.00 from K1920.00 representing a 42.40% and Kerosene is now being sold at K1910.00 from K1261.00 representing a 51.47% change . NYAMILANDU TO SEEK RE-ELECTION FOR THE LAST TIME

  Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Walter MacMillan Nyamilandu has once again disclosed that he will be contesting For the FAM Presidency for the last time during the fourth coming FAM elections scheduled to take place on the 16th of November 2023 in Mzuzu. Nyamilandu was speaking this  during a Press briefing conducted in Blantyre where he was confirming his intentions to once again compete for the Presidency Position in the upcoming elections. RBM DEVALUES KWACHA

  The Reserve Bank of Malawi has devalued the Kwacha with immidiate effect from 9th November 2023  in response to a series of challenges  hitting the country in the economic sector. In a letter released by the Bank , the Kwacha has been devalued from K1180 per dollar selling rate to K1700 per dollar selling rate  which is representing a 44% devaluation ratio. The letter further states that the action was made to address a number of issues which they noted during a research they conducted on the Country's market and Economy which clearly indicated the struggles the Country's Economy is facing. The Bank  then continued by saying that it will continue monitoring developments in the market to avoid disorderly behavior among market players that may cause excessive votality. DERBY ENDS IN STALEMATE

  FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers played to a one all draw in the closely Contested Blantyre derby played at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre . The Nomads broke the deadlock in the 34th minute of the second half  courtesy of a Stanley Sanudi long range thunderbolt which left Bullets shot stopper in absolute dismay and left Bullets trailing going into half time . In the Second half Bullets came knocking for an equaliser when they started keeping possesion in the opponents half,  then found an equalizer in the 58th minute  through a Maxwell Phodo close range tap in . Both sides continued pushing for a winning goal but either side could not find the much needed goal . Wanderers dominated play in the final Stages of the game exchanging some neat passes with the introduction of Vincent Nyangulu and Fransisco Madinga but still more they could not find a late winner . MPINGANJIRA EMBARKS ON MORE HUMANITARIAN GESTURES

  One of the Country's renowned Businessman and Philanthropist Dr Thomson Mpinganjira has continued staging humanitarian projects in the country after disclosing that he is currently constructing a Multi billion Kwacha Cancer Center in Blantyre. Mpinganjira disclosed this during an event in Blantyre commemorating FDH Bank's 15 years of existence in the country. The Philanthropist stated that the experiencehe had with his Wife Barbara Mpinganjira who passed away Whilst battling Cancer , made him venture into such a project. "I spent three Months in a hotel in South Africa when my late Wife was battling Cancer , it is not an experience I would want anyone to experience ", said Mpinganjira.
