MALAWI COMMEMORATES REMEMBERANCE DAY

 




Maltitudes today joined the State Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima and other Senior Government Officials in commemorating Remembrance Day (Poppy Day) in various Cities across the Country.


In the Old capital City Zomba, the Vice President led hundreds of Malawians in observing this year's Poppy Day. Chilima laid a wreath at Zomba memorial tower, followed by Malawi Defence Force(MDF) Commander General Paul Valentino Phiri, Inspector General of Malawi Police Merlyn Yolamu, Speaker of the National Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara, Chief Justice Rezine Mzikamanda and leader of opposition in Parliament Kondwani Nankhumwa who also laid wreaths as part of Poppy Day Commemorations .


Remembrance Day Commemorations  in the capital City Lilongwe were  led by Minister of Defence Harry Mkandawire who represented President Lazarus Chakwera at the ceremony.


In the North, Poppy Day Commemorations took place in Mzuzu at the Mzuzu Cenotaph where Minister of Natural Resources and Climate change Dr Michael Usi led Malwians in observing this year's Poppy Day.


Remembrance Day (Also known as Poppy Day owing to the tradition of wearing a remembrance poppy) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth Member states since the end of the first World war to honour armed forces members who have died in the line of duty .
