THE WORLD COMMEMORATES INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

 


The World is today the 3rd of December 2023  commemorating the 'International day of persons  with disabilities' under the theme "United in action to rescue and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for, with and by persons with disabilities".


The day is about promoting the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities at every level of society and development, and to raise awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in all aspects of political, social, economic, and cultural life.


The day also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.


According to the 2018 Population and Housing Census, there are 1,734,250 persons with disabilities in Malawi, representing about 11.6 percent of the total population aged above 5 years.
