TRAVEL ADVENTURES IN LILONGWE

Travelling around seems fun and Enjoyable , getting exposed to tough realities and vital explorations.

Travelling from City Center to Area 25 in Lilongwe , I happened to board this Minibus which has a sticker with words " Wa Zaka 90 Asalipire" meaning anyone aged 90 above can board this Minibus free of charge.

I was happy and Proud  to see such  kind of a gesture , and Interviewed the Minibus conductor to see if this was not a fluke .

In his words he said that the sticker was not just a fluke but a move to support the elderly who find difficulties to source money for their everyday needs " Where will they get the money to pay the fare ? We do this to support the elderly who we feel are under privileged and lack alot " said the Conductor .

Interestingly one of my fellow Passenger had other thoughts and clearly said that the sticker is just a fluke , To my surprise the Conductor then chipped in and said that " Azaka 90 ukapeza kuti kumalawi ngat kuno ?" Meaning to say that they had to put that sticker knowing that people aged 90 above are rare to find in Malawi regarding our Life expectancy.

The current life expectancy for Malawi in 2023 is 65.62 years, a 0.67% increase from 2022. The life expectancy for Malawi in 2022 was 65.18 years, a 0.68% increase from 2021. The life expectancy for Malawi in 2021 was 64.74 years, a 0.68% increase from 2020.

As we look to contribute towards the development of this nation let's not sideline the elderly .

As to my Conductor Friend we had a long and funny conversation , though I was not yet convinced about their Claimed wonderful gesture .
