STUBBORN FLAMES HOLD THE ELEPHANTS

 




Malawi football national team on Saturday afternoon proved stubborn and managed to hold the Elephants of Guinea by playing out to a two all draw .


Flames mentor Patrick Mabedi made a couple of charges to the side that last played against South Africa at the COSAFA cup by handind Silver strikers left back Tatenda M'balaka his long awaited senior debut .


The Flames took the lead in the 22nd minute courtesy of a goal from the in form Bangwe All stars talisman Robert Saizi who slotted in home a left driven shot past Guinea's shot stopper .


Going at the break , the Flames where in front and looked dangerous in both phases of attack and managed to dominate the midfield duels with commanding performances from the Midfield trio of Lloyd Aaron , Captain John Banda and Chawanangwa Kaonga.


The Elephants of Guinea then equalized in the 56th minute when Aguibou Camara curled in a left footed drive to beat Clever Nkungula who had replaced Brighton Munthali in flames goal .


Two minutes later Saidou Sow gave the visitors a lead through a simple tap in from close range after the visitors had struck the post from a long range floated cross into the flames box .


Mabedi then introduced Wisdom Mpinganjira , Fransisco Madinga , Christopher Kumwembe and Peter Banda to force an equalizer and it paid off from a corner when Lawrence Chaziya headed home to level matters .


The Flames continued to push for a late winner but could only manage to salvage a draw and hold the Elephants .


The Flames shift their focus now to the upcoming world cup qualifiers scheduled to commence in November this year and they will be looking to come out successful in group H alongside Tunisia , Equatorial Guinea, Namibia , Liberia ,Sao Tome and Principe .
