HEALTH MILESTONE
AFRICA ,MALAWI- Malawi becomes the third country in Africa to introduce World Health Organization (WHO) Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) into it's routine immunization , WHO confirms .
TCV is administered to elicit T-Cells response resulting in longer term protection against typhoid by ensuring that the body produces it's own protection (antibodies) against the typhoid causing bacteria.
This large scale effort comes at a critical time as Malawi battles multiple issues , with Cyclone Freddy leaving more than half a million people displaced and increasing the risk of vaccine-preventable outbreaks .
More than 9 million Children from 9 months old up to 15 years of age will be targeted in this effort aimed at preventing outbreaks by strengthening Childhood immunity with Vitamin A supplementation .
Pakistan was the first country to introduce TCV into it's routine immunization schedule and is a global leader in protecting their Children from typhoid while in Africa Liberia became the first country to introduce TCV .
